In this article, I will show you how you can use Math to increase your chances of winning. And we will prove everything using actual data from actual lottery draws. The beauty of math is that you can literally predict the outcome of random events and then later you can prove that you are right.

The traditional school of thought tells us that each lottery combination has the same chances of getting picked in a draw. This concept is quite flimsy, as it does not explain why 1,2,3,4,5,6 or 40,41,42,43,44,45 has yet to appear in the history of lottery draws. So if that sort of thinking is questionable, then what is the probability of winning the lottery?

To understand the mathematical concept involved in playing the lottery, let me start this journey with a simple discussion of marbles. You see from the image above, the white marbles outnumber the five black marbles. Anyone with a sense of simple arithmetic can tell that when you blindly pick a marble from the bunch illustrated above, the likelihood of getting a white marble is extremely high.

In mathematics, there are 2 methods of measuring probability. One deals with independent events and the other one deals with dependent events.

The Delta Lotto System

We will not discuss these 2 methods comprehensively. So therefore, getting a white marble on the second pick is likely to occur because the probability leans towards the white marble getting picked more often.

In mathematics, probability is the likelihood of one or more events happening divided by the number of possible outcomes. In the case of the black and white marbles above, the chances of drawing a white marble are 45 in 50 whereas the chances of getting a black marble are 5 in Now, you might ask, what do these marbles have to do with the lottery? Absolutely nothing. But the probabilities have everything to do with it. For now, you can simply pick an answer and later, we will find out if you are correct.

First of all, we need to know how many different combinations of 6 numbers can be generated from 45 numbers. We use binomial coefficient formula below:. As much as possible, I will try to explain everything more simply and to make my point much quicker, I will simply provide the answer.

If we follow the same formula with the rest of the patterns, we will be able to arrive at the completed table below:. Going back to the question above, which of these combinations do you think have better chances of getting drawn? How to pick winning lottery numbers? The answer is to simply avoid number combinations belonging to a pattern with lower probability, as you would with the black marbles. In the case of a real lottery game, you should avoid a pattern like All Even or All Odd numbers altogether.

In the following tables, I will be comparing Expected frequencies with Observed frequencies. The Expected frequency is the theoretical frequency of each pattern drawn from calculating probabilities multiplied by total number of draws, while the Observed frequency is the actual frequency drawn from actual lottery results a.

The proximity of the expected frequency and the observed frequency proves this. Accordingly, the results coincide with my previous theoretical computations — proof that applying probability in the lottery can predict how it behaves or how it will behave in the future. More specifically, what is your probability of winning the lottery? The answer, if you digested all of that information correctly, will depend on which lottery pattern you will use to play with.Choose from the dropdown menus below to see different statistical analyses for the complete results database of any given lottery.

Once you start to see the winning patterns, you might not be able to guess which are going to be the winning number combination in the upcoming lottery drawing, but you can set a range of numbers that are supposedly more likely to win, statistically.

Another way to look at the lottery numbers is what those numbers add up to, if you add all 6 winning lottery numbers together. In this way, you can choose a range of numbers that adds up to an optimal amount.

See this article on How to Pick Lottery Numbers too. So if the range is between andthe additional of all six winning lottery numbers added up to a number within that range. The average sum of all the winning numbers comes to But as you can see, the three ranges between and are the three to target, because while, and have roughly the same number of winning combinations, each of those three ranges are significantly higher than the next best number combination.

From analyzing these Megamillions lottery statistics, the best option is to select a number combination including 3 even numbers and 3 odd numbers, but whose sums come to right around in total. For instance, you might choose 3, 14, 20, 29, 33 and 52 52 not being for the yellow ball, of coursewhich adds up to In Powerball, though, the odd numbers have been winning numbers a little more often, with odd winning numbers and even winning numbers.

The odd numbers have been particularly successful for the actual Power Ball, with winning odd Power Ball numbers and for the even winning Power Ball numbers. So the following is only for the 5 non-Powerball drawn numbers. Finally, here is a breakdown of which red Power Ball numbers came up as the winning number the most. These numbers suggest you select 3 odd numbers and 3 even numbers when choosing to play the Powerball lottery, and have those 5 white balls add up to somewhere between and being the median value.

See Pick Lottery Numbers. Once again, there is just a larger number of 3-even, 3-odd number combinations, so no one combination is likely to be more likely to hit than any other combination, even those with all evens or all odds. In the end, the odds are tremendously against you ever winning the lotteryso I suggest you take a deep breath, choose the first six numbers that come to mind, and enjoy your chance at hitting the jackpot.

Or, we use inferential statistics to make judgments of the probability that an observed difference between groups is a dependable one or one that might have happened by chance in this study. In a research study we may have lots of measures.

Or we may measure a large number of people on any measure. Descriptive statistics help us to simplify large amounts of data in a sensible way. Each descriptive statistic reduces lots of data into a simpler summary.

For instance, consider a simple number used to summarize how well a batter is performing in baseball, the batting average. This single number is simply the number of hits divided by the number of times at bat (reported to three significant digits). A batter who is hitting. The single number describes a large number of discrete events. Or, consider the scourge of many students, the Grade Point Average (GPA).

Lotto Statistics

This single number describes the general performance of a student across a potentially wide range of course experiences. The batting average doesn't tell you whether the batter is hitting home runs or singles. It doesn't tell whether she's been in a slump or on a streak. The GPA doesn't tell you whether the student was in difficult courses or easy ones, or whether they were courses in their major field or in other disciplines.

Even given these limitations, descriptive statistics provide a powerful summary that may enable comparisons across people or other units. The distribution is a summary of the frequency of individual values or ranges of values for a variable. The simplest distribution would list every value of a variable and the number of persons who had each value. For instance, a typical way to describe the distribution of college students is by year in college, listing the number or percent of students at each of the four years.

Or, we describe gender by listing the number or percent of males and females. In these cases, the variable has few enough values that we can list each one and summarize how many sample cases had the value. But what do we do for a variable like income or GPA.

With these variables there can be a large number of possible values, with relatively few people having each one. In this case, we group the raw scores into categories according to ranges of values. For instance, we might look at GPA according to the letter grade ranges. Or, we might group income into four or five ranges of income values. One of the most common ways to describe a single variable is with a frequency distribution.

Depending on the particular variable, all of the data values may be represented, or you may group the values into categories first (e. Rather, the value are grouped into ranges and the frequencies determined. Frequency distributions can be depicted in two ways, as a table or as a graph.Items in your CartPrime Pantry Items Your Shopping Cart is empty. PredictionsWhile many commentators continue to ask when the sports rights bubble will burst, leading to stagnating or declining fees, our view is that rights fees for premium sports properties overall will continue to grow.

Television and premium sports are well matched for each other: at the highest level, sport is great unscripted live drama, and constant advances in technology lead to ever more sophisticated, compelling ways in which sports can be portrayed. The development of pay-TV in particular has transformed the broadcasting of premium sports leagues. Live content is a key subscription driver for those leagues and underpins many pay-TV business models.

As the pay-TV subscriber base rises and revenue per user grows, operators are investing increasing sums to secure this key content.

In 2014 about three quarters of the total value of premium broadcast rights fees will be generated by ten competitions: the top-tier domestic football leagues in England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, the UEFA Champions League, and the four major North American professional leagues.
